How about a solo date?
By Anindita
Mornings are usually a beautiful chaos with breakfast prep, stacking toys back to where they belong, and getting the boy ready for school. But today? It’s complete silence.
I decided to tuck myself into a cozy corner of a café, basking in the strong aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee: just me, hot coffee, a slice of banana cake, and a notebook. Decided to take a break from the chores, and the little one wasn’t around to pull at my sleeves.
Sitting alone at first felt slightly uncomfortable and awkward. We’re always with people around. But a solo date isn’t defined as lonely—it’s an absolute necessity sometimes and a luxury. For me, true luxury isn’t hefty designer shoes and clothes; it’s unceasing time.
Today there will be no meaningless scrolling; it’s decided. Instead, I took out my pen and hit the paper. My mommy era and its big plans jam my brain with multiple open tabs. For me, putting down my thoughts in this quiet nook is the ultimate way of decluttering my mind. It takes away the mental chaos and diligently straightens the knots onto the page. With every word on the paper, the screams fade, making way for a fresh start and the much-needed clarity.
I’ve come to terms with the truth that taking an hour or two for myself doesn’t make me a distant or selfish mommy; it just grounds me. I returned home to my son with much more patience, positivity, and a clearer vision.
